PARTNERS Program Coming to the Children's Hospital

I am excited to share that a wonderful program for medical students is now coming to the CH.  The
PARTNERS program described below will start having medical students shadow nursing staff in CH
in February.  I will be looking for volunteers who want to have the students shadow with them.  This is
a great opportunity for the medical students to better understand the role of the nurse and how much you
all do each day to coordinate care for our patients.  The experience is only for 4 hours and has been very
well received in the adult hospital.  Please let me know if you are interested in participating.  We hope to
have more shadow opportunities for the students next semester.

Thanks, Melinda

The P.A.R.T.N.E.R.S. program allows first year College of Medicine students to gain exposure to
the hospital environment.  Through a shadow or partner experience, the students will have the opportunity
to gain familiarity with the sights and sounds of the hospital setting early in their learning experience.  The
medical students will learn the importance of interpersonal collaboration and gain an appreciation of the
various roles of the health care team.  The P.A.R.T.N.E.R.S. program will educate students about the
value of all health care providers to the outcomes for the patient.

Health care providers such as registered nurses, respiratory, occupational and physical therapists,

chaplains, and other disciplines will participate in this program.  The students will spend four hours with
a different care provider three times each semester for a total of six clinical experinces in their first year.
