Clindamycin FYI

There have been several incidents of Clindamycin glass bottles not infusing. Jill Thompson did some investigating and found that when the filter on the secondary tubing is wet (from back-priming) the vial will not infuse.

The solution is that for now we will need to use *A NEW SECONDARY SET WITH EACH CLINDAMYCIN INFUSION when it is in the glass bottle*.

Back-prime the new secondary set as you normally would until the primary solution is partially into the chamber (and not all the way full). Hope this helps to guarantee our patients get their antibiotics on time with out infusion issues. If you have any questions let me know! -Kelsey

Evaluations

It's that time of year again....annual evaluations.  If you were employed at MUSC prior to April 1, 2014, you will be receiving an annual evaluation.  I am working diligently to write all of the evaluations and hope to be finished by Wednesday, August 13th.  Once your evaluation is written, I will sign it and send it to you in Success Factors.  You will receive an email that your evaluation is ready for your review.  Please take the opportunity to review your evaluation privately.  Then, I will meet with each of you to review the past year and discuss plans for the coming year.  PLEASE KNOW THAT I WILL REVIEW YOUR EVAL IN PERSON...I just like to send them ahead of time so you can read in private and take enough time to review.

Everyone's evaluation must be written, reviewed, and signed before August 31st.  I will be out of August 28-September 2, so we need to have everything completed by August 27th.  I will come in early and stay late to get to everyone in the off shifts.  Please make every effort to make yourself available.  If you will be on vacation during this time, please let me know so we can make alternate arrangements.

Thanks so much!

Melinda

Congratulations Natalie Ball!

Please join me in congratulating Natalie Ball, RN III in PICU on her admittance to MUSC's new RN - BSN program.  Natalie has received a full scholarship from MUHA to cover the cost of tuition and fees.  The scholarships were awarded based on a number of measures of an RN's leadership, success, and participation at MUSC and in the larger nursing world.  Natalie was on of the top candidates and very deserving of this honor.

Thank you Natalie for all you do each day for the PICU.  Way to represent pediatric critical care at MUSC!

7C and PICU Reps needed for CH Practice Council

The Children's Hospital Practice Council meets monthly to review any new or revised practices and policies.  We need representation from PICU and 7C.  Please let me know if you are interested.  This would be a great addition to an RN III application.

Thanks,

Melinda
