Patient Satisfaction
  •  Rolling out My Story and Take 5 in next few weeks
  • CH scores dropped this past quarter.  We are on the way back up.
  •  Remember the basics:  AIDET, hourly rounding
  •  Melinda and Erin will rollout templates as soon as they are available electronically

Ideal Patient Rounds

  • We will be trialing a more structured way of doing PICU rounds
  •   Sterile Cockpit concept 
  •  Kardex/Daily Goals Sheet combined
  • Xray rounds at 0815, rounds start at 0830

Epic Rollout
  • Superusers are attending block training.
  •   Please know your superusers:  ABG, Erin, Melinda, Patricia, Erin, Gregg, Marilyn, Brooke
  • Go Live is 7-1-14. Training for all staff starts in May
  • Reminder of PTO restrictions May 1-July 31

Infection Control Update

  • No CAUTI, VAP or CLABSI in Dec. or January
  • We may start receiving monetary awards for the unit for months with no CAUTI:  stay tuned for details.

Magnet Update:  Kelsey Strawn, BSN, PICU Magnet Champion

  • Staff reviewed the nursing excellence road map with a focused discussion of Exemplary Professional Practice
  • PICU has good scores with the nursing sensitive quality indicators for falls, CLABSI, HAPU
  • Professional Practice Model reviewed
  • Kelsey answered any questions staff had regarding Magnet Journey.
  • Staff need to continue to review Magnet manual and Kelsey will keep us updated on our Nursing Excellence program.

Employee Engagement Survey

·         Survey ends tonight at midnight– PICU has 51% response rate, 7C – 62%
·         Children’s Overall has the lowest response rate
·         Please use your voice and complete the survey

Staffing Update
  • Interviewing for RN II now
  • New Traveler Jillian Cannon starts 3/10
  • New Administrative Assistant Rebecca Little starts today
 Kronos/Optilinks Update

  • Optilinks starts 3/4/14.
  •  Optilinks will replace the nursing checkbook, nursing operations database (acuities), and the assignment sheets with one electronic document.
  • Everyone must attend training or do CATTS.
  •  We will continue doing all pre-planning on paper.  The date to switch to pre-planning in Kronos has not yet been set.
  • Please log in to kronos and get familiar with the system as soon as possible.
MUSC Financial Update

  • Hospital is doing well.  $51 million cash on hand. PICU is meeting cost per patient day and hours per work load unit goals.
  • We will find out in April if we have $ for merit raises.

Staff Recognition

  • Patrice Nock and Patricia Prause were recognized by Dr. Tecklenburg for managing a Friday night shift with 6 admissions and very high acuity.
  •  Great job ladies with your clinical expertise and “can do” attitudes!
  •   Jason Williams has passed CCRN certification and been accepted into CRNA school in Pittsburgh.
  •   We are so proud of you Jason!
