Glucometer QC's

PCTs- Please remember to perform QC's on the glucometer once a shift.  There was an incident recently where an emergent blood sugar was needed for a coding patient and the glucometer was due for QC.  This delayed care and was completely preventable.  If anyone is having access trouble with the glucometer, please email Kimberly Washington.   Any questions, please let me know. Thanks!

  1. I believe the common reason for QC's due on glucometer are because only the PM tech is listed to do these during their nightshift. If bobby and/or I float, then the QC's will not be done for the 24 hours. Maybe this is something that could expand to being done during night and day shift, as a "just in case"
    Thank you.

    1. Great idea Marc! I wasn't aware it was only a nightshift task. I'll speak to the day shift PCTs and make sure they are doing them as well. Thanks!
