Friday Updates

Hope everyone had a great 4rth of July.  Sorry some of you had to work, but seeing the cupcakes and cookies leftover in the breakrooms makes me happy that you at least made the work day fun.  I appreciate the time with family and friends that all of you sacrifice to provide excellent care to sick children.  I know their families are thankful you are here 24/7.

Just a few updates for the week:

Staffing Update:

I have hired an RN I from the Meduflex Pool, Jaime Maskill, for PICU.  Jaime received her BSN from Belmont University and has been working in the peds med/surg Meduflex Pool for the past 3 months.  Jaime did her nursing leadership rotation in the PICU at Vanderbilt and is very excited to join our team.  She will transfer from Meduflex effective July 15.

I have one other RN II position posted for PICU and am waiting approval for another RN II position for PICU and an RN II position for 7C.

Performance Excellence/Huron Update:

I informed all of our Weekend Work Option staff earlier this week that the WOW program will be discontinued effective January 13, 2014.  These amazing RNs have been very gracious in their response to this sad news.  I am so thankful they have helped us maintain the highest quality of care on these difficult to fill shifts.

One reason I am moving forward with filling any positions we have open is to lessen the impact the WOW discontinuation will have on our weekend staffing requirements.  The unit schedulers and I will be working diligently to determine how we can best cover the weekends.  I will update you all as those plans come together.

Management Update:

Amelia Little, BSN, has accepted the Nurse Manager position for 7 East.  I am so very thankful for all she has done for our units and thrilled to know that she will take her great leadership skills to our sister unit 7E.  I will miss Amelia tremendously, but am so proud of her and wish her much success!

Employee Engagement Survey:

Thanks to all of you who participated in this year's employee engagement survey.  Our scores for both PICU and 7C improved over last year.  In the coming months, I will be holding staff meetings to review our survey results and make action plans for each unit to continue our success.  Thank you all for making PICU and 7C great places to work!

See you all next week!  A little Friday humor to get your weekend going...

Melinda
