Clarification on Town Halls

Hey guys.  I know "mandatory" meetings are not always welcomed.  To explain a bit...every year the employee satisfaction survey consistently lists "high level leaders do not communicate effectively with the staff" as an opportunity for improvement.  Town Halls were designed to get the word out about overall hospital activities and perfomance.  However, attendance has historically been very poor, so staff are still not getting the message and still listing this as an area needing improvement.  Dr. Cawley has made communication his top priority in these times of many changes in healthcare.  Having an interactive forum that promotes 2-way communication is the most effective way to ensure staff are aware of what is going on and able to provide input to high level leaders.  It is like the theory that if you don't vote, you shouldn't be able to complain about elected officials.  Thus, Town Halls will now be mandatory.  They are once each quarter so this is only 4 times per year that you need to attend.  You can attend in person, via webinar, or as a last resort a review in a CATTS format will be offered.  Obviously the CATTS method is not interactive and that is why staff are encouraged to attend in person or via webinar.

Changes are happening every day at MUSC and as committed employees, we need to meet high level leadership half-way by attending the Town Halls.  I can tell you the meetings are brief, informative, and a great opportunity to voice your concerns, ideas, and questions.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks for all you do to make MUSC a great place!

Melinda
