Magnet Update
February Announcements:
- There is a committee that is at the starting phase of looking into
making an MUSC app. Amber Patterson is the only nurse on this committee
and if you have ideas or suggestions you can e-mail them to her.
- Questions about BSN programs? Marilyn Shaffner recently sent an
e-mail on how to sign up for a one on one Transcript Review Session with
Carolyn Page, the Director of Student Services at the MUSC College of Nursing.
Carolyn will review individual transcripts and provide guidance on coursework
that may be needed to enter a typical BSN program.
- CCRN Update: If you would like to use a review course I have for
the CCRN let me know and I will give you information on how to access it!
Important Dates:
- Tuesday March 11, 2014, 1200: PICU Leadership Council Meeting (all
RNs welcome to attend- I’m going for the first time!)
- Monday, April 28, 2014: Question and Answer session with upper
level leadership
o Let me know if you want to attend- great chance to voice questions
and get answers directly from hospital leadership
o The last Q&A session was posted to the blog on Jan. 31.This
time the format will be more informal.
In Your Mail Box:
- There is an overview I made of the Nursing Excellence Roadmap with
key points about our hospital to be familiar with (Nursing Strategic Plan,
Professional Practice Model, Care Delivery Model, etc.)
- When magnet surveyors come this Fall they will want to know how
our nurses exemplify these ideals. Luckily, all of this information will be in
the Magnet Binder and it is all easy to come up with examples of, thanks to how
awesome our nurses are!
- For example a core value of the professional practice model is
collaboration, how do we exemplify this? Participation in multi-disciplinary
rounds, including family members in decision making, consulting pharmacy,
dietary, etc.
