7C: Great job with the bedside safety checklists, I've had wonderful feedback. As of tomorrow, Friday, May 3, 2013, you no longer have to fill out the paper form. Instead, just chart a sticky note "bedside safety check complete" with your chart check. I hope it goes without saying that you must continue to perform the safety check together, we just don't need to waste paper in the process. I will go back to daily audits of each bedside to ensure the safety checks are completed without the paper form. Thanks for your help everyone!
PICU: Thanks for trying out our new SBS and WAT scores. After receiving some feedback, I've adjusted both forms to have empty TIME boxes so you can assess and chart at any time. I've also added several boxes to the SBS form so you can document your sedation assessment as often as you wish (q hr if necessary). Any other feedback, good or bad, please let me know. I'm still waiting for a timeline for the McKesson build. As soon as I know, you'll know.
I've heard a few questions regarding the new text paging protocol. To clarify: You do not need to page the residents when they are on the unit, unless it's during rounds and you need to report a critical value. If they are entering orders at a computer it is ok to interrupt them. The goal is to not interrupt rounds and noon conference. Also- this protocol is currently being piloted in PICU and NICU, so if you page another service (surgery, heme/onc, etc) they will not understand the response codes. If our pilot works out and we get good feedback, we will propose it's use hospital-wide. So let us know what you think.
Thanks everyone!
