Proper Waste and Return of Controlled Substances

There have been a number of occurrences of controlled medications being put in the unlocked return bin for pharmacy.  Please remember that if you do not hang a drip, but have already signed for it from pharmacy, you must waste it and have a witness document the wastage and return the card to pharmacy.  Also, any other controlled substances that are dropped or patient refuses to take after it was drawn up or opened must be placed in a biohazard bag and locked in the narcotic box bin for the pharmacy to pick up.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Melinda
