PICU patients going to OR

Effective immediately- Anesthesia will now pick up patients in PICU and receive bedside report then take patients down to the OR.  We will no longer take our patients to the front desk.  This will ensure a thorough report is given and the patient is handed off safely.  To expedite this process, please complete the pre-op checklist as soon as possible (nightshift for those scheduled in the AM).  Let me know if you have any questions.

  1. So to clarify because people are still asking. Does the nurse need to accompany anesthesia down to OR? We shouldn't have to retrieve emergency drug boxes and airway bags beause they should be bringing their own right? And should be bringing their own transport monitors? Thanks! Jennifer

    1. Yes Jennifer, you hand the patient off to Anesthesia at the bedside. They should bring everything they need with them and should not be taking our monitors or supplies. We just need to remember to have the patient ready to go when they arrive. Thanks, good question.

    2. Think there might still be some kinks in the plan. Anesthesia came up last week without monitoring equipment for pt transport and said they didn't know if they needed to bring or not. Unfortunately the baby was going to PCICU post op so nursing still had to accompany them to OR and wait to retrieve our monitors. Seems like they still don't have it together from their end.
