Verbal Teach Back CATTS Lesson

All PICU and 7C Staff has been assigned a MANDATORY CATTS lesson on Verbal Teach back from the Patient Family Education team. It must be completed by March 31st. Be aware, the module takes about 45 minutes to complete. I know there is a great deal of changes and mandatory education at this time, so plan accordingly. As always, see myself or Amelia Little with any questions or concerns. Thank you all!

Welcome Tina!

Welcome our newest PICU RN....Tina Evangelista!  Tina is starting in hospital wide orientation this week but will be in the unit in the upcoming weeks.  We are super excited to have her, as most of you already know Tina from her PCT role.  Please congratulate the new RN and welcome her in her new role!

CLINICAL PRACTICE ALERT!!

 

Starting February 1st, 2015, the new hang time for IVF will be 2200. Please refer to the powerpoint in your MUSC email that reviews the practice change.

CLINICAL ALERT!  NEW PRODUCT!

The new CADD Epidural Pump will be in the units starting in early January.  I have been doing just in time in-services for staff to go over the basic pump functions.  Please try to attend on of my in-services if you have not done so already!  Key Points for the new pump:

1.  It runs on battery. The battery life is expected to be a little over 24 hours, make sure to check your battery life when completing your bedside 2 RN sign off to ensure the pump will remain on!

2.  The medication cartridge is patient specific and one-time use.  It will be labeled with the patient name, MR, and medication.  When discontinuing therapy, make sure to draw up the remaining medication and waste it according to policy.

3.  A clinician bolus can be administered via the pump under "tasks,"  please adhere to standard protocol when administering a bolus of any narcotic. 

4. The pump key will be kept with the PCA key in the AccuDose.  If you need to change a setting or administer a bolus via the pump you do not need the physical key.  The clinician may enter the passcode when prompted. 

Again, these pumps are extremely user-friendly and walk you through each step.  Please refer to the quick guide attached the the pump or on MUSC's nursing homepage. As always, I am happy to answer any questions or go over the pump in specifics on a one on one basis.

New Central Line Dressing Kit!
There are new Central Line Dressing Kits available.  The old ones will be cycled out and new one will take their place in pyxis.  These kits are very user friendly and contain all supplies needed including mask/gloves.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns:)
